A strong, vigorous growing Rhubarb that is easily grown from seed and ready for harvesting after one year of growth.
Thick stems have a crimson colour that is more intense at the bottom fading to green at the top.

Produces medium-sized juicy stalks, a heavy producer with tender flesh with an excellent balance of sweetness and acidity. A classic heirloom vegetable.

 The merchant explorer Marco Polo searched for the place where the plant was grown and harvested, discovering that it was cultivated in the mountains of Tangut province in China and brought it to Europe.

Propagating rhubarb from seed is easy.

Sow seeds in spring or summer into seedling trays or punnets.

Protect from slug, snails an

  1. Sow seeds 12mm deep in a potting mix that is free-draining and keep it just moist.
  2. It is best to use a potting mix with perlite added to help with water retention and drainage, or a standard seed raising mix.
  3. Do not let it dry out or being waterlogged or the seed may rot.

Seeds will germinate in 7 to 14 days at soil temperatures of 20 to 24°C

Protect seedlings from slugs, snails and extreme weather.

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lie dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
