Richea dracophylla is an attractive tall branching shrub with narrow tapering leaves 30 cm long. White or pink flowers 1cm in diameter occur in dense sprays 15 cm long during summer. An excellent foliage plant for a container or as a cut flower.
Native to Tasmania.
Prefers a well-composted moist soil in a protected shaded position, frost resistant but drought tender.
Although seed can be sown most of the year in many parts of Australia seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn in temperate climates, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 15-23°C for this species.
Pre-treatment of smoke may increase assist in germination.
This genus is believed to be responsive to smoke, although it is not critical for germination of this species it usually beneficial in reducing the number of days to germination and increasing germination rates. Smoke treatments available by clicking here.

Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
