Richea pandanifolia is a tall palm like species with leaves that are densely crowded towards the top of the trunk and cream or pink flowers that occur in cluster in summer.
Typically grows on a single stem but may be occasionally branched. It has tapering leaves 1.5 metres long on the larger specimens and like all richeas the base of the leaf wraps completely around the stem.
Native to the wet mountain forests of Tasmania.
Prefers a well-composted moist soil in a protected shaded position, frost resistant but drought tender.
Although seed can be sown most of the year in many parts of Australia seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn in temperate climates, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 15-23°C for this species.

This genus is responsive to smoke, although it is not critical for germination of this species it usually beneficial in reducing the number of days to germination and increasing germination rates. Smoke treatments available by clicking here.
General note: Seeds of many natives are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
