Scarlet Sage is a perennial that is usually grown as an annual 30-60 cm tall with bright scarlet bloom with an invigorating fragrance.
Native to Texas and the southeastern U.S. it is an excellent nectar producer attracting pollinating insects and nectar-feeding birds
A very useful plant that can be used in cottage gardens, beds, borders, pots and window boxes. Good pollinator plant. Outstanding for mass plantings
Grow notes:
Adaptable to most garden soils but prefers well-drained average soil in a sunny position.
Tropical: Year-round.
Temperate: Spring to Early Summer.
Cold: Spring to Early Summer.
Sow: 3 mm deep.
Sow direct or in trays transplant when 5 cm high, to avoid excessive root disturbance.
Germination: 14-21 days.
Plant space: 25 cm
Flowering: 12 weeks
Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
