Blue Sage is a perennial that is usually grown as an annual in cooler climates 30-60 cm tall with blue flower spikes with an invigorating fragrance.
Native to New Mexico and Texas and can be found in chaparral, plains and woodland edges where it is an important nectar producer attracting pollinating insects and nectar-feeding birds.
A very useful plant that can be used in cottage gardens, beds, borders, pots and window boxes. Good pollinator plant. Outstanding for mass plantings.
Grow notes:
Adaptable to most garden soils but prefers well-drained average soil in a sunny position.
Tropical: Year-round.
Temperate: Spring to Early Summer.
Cold: Spring to Early Summer.
Sow: 3 mm deep.
Sow direct or in trays transplant when 5 cm high, to avoid excessive root disturbance.
Germination: 14-21 days.
Plant space: 25 cm
Flowering: 12 weeks
Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
