Soapwort is a spreading perennial that is native to Europe and can grow up to cm tall. It produces many small, pink flowers that cover the bushy mounds in late spring. This plant is an excellent choice for ground cover, and it works well in front of borders or rock gardens. It prefers full sun to partial shade and is adaptable to most soils, but it prefers an open, sunny position.

Soapwort is a vigorous, low-creeping plant that is useful for spilling down sunny slopes or over rock walls.
Plants form a low mound of bright green leaves that are smothered by starry, bright pink flowers.
This plant is also useful as an edging in the sunny border, hanging baskets, or pots. Clumps may be easily divided in late summer or early spring.

Saponaria (Rock Soapwort) make good alternative for Lobularia (Alyssum)

It's worth noting that Soapwort has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit for its reliable performance in the garden.

Best sown in spring. If sowing in warmer climates store seeds in a refrigerator for 14-21 days before sowing.
Sow seed on the surface and firm gently, do not bury deeply. Keep moist

  • Sow directly in the growing position.
  • If sowing in trays transplant when large enough to handle.
  • For mass planting sow at a rate of gram/m² 0.06g

*Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to germinate, keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • The customer should do their due diligence that they are suited to their region.
