Schoenia everlastings make up a large part of the spectacular wildflower display that occurs every spring in Western Australia.
A profusion of large bright yellow blooms over several months from late winter to summer. Excellent for cut flowers or for drying and preserving.
Ideal for mass planting, sow 1 gram per 2 square metres for a stunning meadow display.
Endemic to a wide range in Western Australia.
Prefers light to medium well-composted soils in a protected sunny position, drought, and frost tender.
Grow notes:
Best sown in Autumn or Winter. Can be grown throughout summer if water is provided.
If sowing directly into the ground sow on the surface and rake very lightly, it is not critical to cover all the seed. Seed should germinate 7-14 days after first rains.
If sowing in containers:
General note: Seeds of many natives are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
