Schoenia everlastings make up a large part of the spectacular wildflower display that occurs every spring in Western Australia. A profusion of large bright yellow blooms over several months from late winter to summer. Excellent for cut flowers or for drying and preserving.
A popular plant in cultivation for many years because of its very colourful display, especially in massed plantings. Will often germinate in the garden from seeds produced from the previous season's plantings.
The dried flowers hold their colour well and are useful in dried flower arrangements.
For a mass display sow the rate of 1 gram per square metre.
Occur naturally in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia.
Prefers light to medium well-composted soils in a protected sunny position, drought and frost tender.
Grow Notes:
In temperate areas of Australia, it is best to sow from the first winter rains through to late winter. Flowering will continue until the rains stop and it becomes too hot and dry.
If sowing directly into the ground sow on the surface and rake over.
If sowing in containers:
General note:
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate immediately, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur.
