Both flowers and leaves are edible, and often used in Asian cuisine. Australian Aboriginals used an infusion from the inner bark for treating sores and general illnesses.

The bark is pale grey, furrowed and corky. Young twigs are finely hairy. Leaves are pinnate to 40 cm long with 20 pairs of leaflets.
Seed pods very slender, 12-20 x 0.25-0.3 cm, curved or almost straight.

Occurs naturally in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and Queensland.
It also occurs in Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Vietnam

Please Note: Although many of the traditional Bush Food and Medicine plants are now commercially produced in various forms we recommend you re-search these before using them as any form of food or medicine. Some parts of the plant may not be edible or some may need to be prepared before they are safe to eat or use in any way. We do our best to describe their traditional & modern uses. It is the purchaser's responsibility to ensure they are fit for their intended use.

For best results, sow the seeds in spring or early summer. Sowings in autumn and winter may result in slow germination, weaker seedlings, or germination failure.

  1. Place the seed in water for 24-48 hours
  2. Next, soak the seeds in near boiling water overnight to help soften the tough exterior and improve germination.
  3. Sow the seeds to a depth equal to the seed's width.

Germination: Typically occurs within two weeks.

Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to germinate, keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • The customer should do their due diligence that they are suited to their region.
