This semi-dwarf variety produces large, ruffled blooms in various colours, including pink, purple, red, yellow, white, and flowers throughout the summer.

It can be used in old-fashioned gardens, borders, and containers and is also an excellent choice as a cut flower. To prolong the blooming time, removing the spent flowers is recommended. Snapdragons attract bees and other beneficial insects for pollination.

Antirrhinum majus originates from southern-central France and the eastern Pyrenees to north-eastern Spain and the Balearic Islands.

Adaptable to most well-drained garden soils in an open sunny position.

Snapdragon can be grown throughout the year in most Australian climates. Avoid sowing in the hottest and coldest months.

Tropical: Autumn to Early Spring.
Temperate: Autumn or Early Spring to Early Summer.
Cold: Spring to Autumn

Sow on the surface and cover very lightly; do not bury deeply. Sow directly in the garden or trays and transplant when large enough to handle.
For a mass planting effect, scatter over a weed-free area and rake over very lightly.

The optimum time to sow the seed is when the soil temperature is 18-24°C
Germination: 10-14 days

Plant space: 35 cm
Flowering: 26 weeks

*Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to keep them moist but not too wet

  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
