An attractive variety of Statice which produces clusters of purple-coloured flowers which grow atop the stiff angular stems. Ideal bedding plant and useful for cutting or drying flowers.
A hardy plant that tolerates coastal conditions
The long-lasting flowers make ideal fresh cut flowers as well as being a mainstay of traditional dried flower arrangements. Easy to grow they come in a large range of colours.
Tidy plants up when they start to look untidy for another magnificent display the following season.
Statice has been cultivated since the mid-17th century as a garden flower, but also as an herb that was used for the treatment of dysentery as well as other ailments.
Grow notes:
Adaptable to most well-drained garden soils in an open sunny position.
Tropical: Late Summer to Early Autumn.
Temperate: Autumn to Spring
Cold: Spring or Early Autumn.
Sow: 6 mm deep.
Sow direct or in trays transplant when 5 cm high, avoid excessive root disturbance.
Germination: 14-28 days.
Plant space: 30 cm
Flowering: 20 weeks
Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
