This popular Canadian heirloom variety of swede dating back to 1935 produces round uniform roots 13-15 cm in diameter with deep purple tops and creamy-yellow bottoms. Larger than most purple top varieties with an excellent sweet flavour.

Laurentian makes a good market variety. Young leaves can be used as a green in salads and stir-fries, and roots fried, boiled, or roasted.

Grow notes:

Adaptable to most good garden soils prefers an open sunny position.

Tropical: Late-Summer to Early-Autumn.
Temperate: Late-Summer to Winter.
Cold: Late-Summer to Early-Spring.

Sow: 6 mm deep.
For best results sow direct where they are to grow
Germination: 10-14 days.
Plant space: 10 cm
Row space: 20-30cm
Maturity: 12-16 weeks

Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
