Named after the 17th century Italian Fransiscan monk who discovered these brightly coloured Sweet Peas growing wild in Sicily.
Closely related to the extremely fragrant wild sweet that grow in the hedgerows in Sicily and Southern Italy it produces fragrant bicolored, purple and rich deep purple-magenta flowers over many weeks.
Traditionally the 17th of March, St Patrick's Day, is the date used as a guide for sowing sweet peas in many parts of Australia.
Adaptable to most well-drained garden soils but does best in a rich friable soil that drains well. Avoid waterlogged soils.
Pre-treatment: Soak seed in water overnight.
Sow: 25 mm deep.
Tropical climates: Late summer Autumn
