A tall deciduous ornamental tree with a pyramidal habit well suited to wet and boggy conditions.
The fine feathery green foliage turns a stunning shade of golden amber in autumn making it a must have tree in large gardens and open landscapes especially around waterways.
This species is monoecious, with male and female flowers on a single plant forming on slender, tassel-like structures near the edge of branchlets.
The seed cones are green and globular and are typically no larger than 3.5 cm (1.4 inches) in diameter adding extra attraction to this beautiful tree.
Grows in full sun to part shade. The swamp cypress originates from the wetlands of Southeastern United States and can survive long periods with the roots completely under water but also performs well in well-drained soil.
The main trunk is often surrounded by cypress knees that protruding from the roots above ground. The bark is deeply fissured and red/brown allowing the tree to breathe when the roots are submerged.
Highly recommended for autumn colour.
