Commonly known as German or Winter Thyme, it is a perennial from the Mediterranean region. Plants grow to 35 cm tall.
Thyme is an interesting flavoured culinary herb that be used for stuffings, poultry, fish, soups, meat, eggs, vegetables and cheese

All Thyme varieties prefers sunny locations and light, well-draining soil. Its leaves are small and linear, and its flowers attract bees and other beneficial insects.

Perfect variety for rock gardens, borders and along walkways.

Adaptable to most well-drained fertile garden soils in a sunny position. This variety is drought, frost and wind tolerant.

Thyme seeds are tiny and best sown in punnets or containers.

  • Sow on the surface of a quality seed-raising mix and press them into the surface (1mm Maximum)
  • Do not sow the seed deeply.
  • Keep the soil warm and moist. Avoid drying out or waterlogging.

If growing as a groundcover or a lawn alternative

  • Ensure the gound is loosened and weed-free.
  • Sow seed at 1.3 grams per m2
  • Keep moist at all times until they have rooted sufficiently to survive.

When to sow:

  • Cool climates: September to December.
  • Temperate: September to December or March to April.
  • Sub-tropical: May to October.
  • Tropical: May to October.
  • Arid climates: September to December.
