Zinnias are a type of flower with large double blooms that are about 10-12 cm across. They come in a beautiful blushing pink color that resembles that of a Dahlia flower. Zinnias are known to attract butterflies and other beneficial insects to the garden, making them a great pollinator plant. They are also one of the easiest annuals to grow and are perfect for cut flowers. Zinnias look outstanding in beds, borders, and containers.

Originally from Mexico, Zinnias are now grown as an ornamental plant in many regions and have become naturalized in scattered locations in South and Central America, the West Indies, the United States, Australia, and Italy.
They are adaptable to most well-drained garden soils in a sunny position and are tolerant of average soils.

Zinnia is a warm-season plant and is best grown in well-drained soil in a sunny position.

  1. Best sown 6 mm directly where they are to grow.
  2. If sowing in trays transplant when large enough to handle.
  3. If mass planting as a meadow scatter seeds and rake over.

Tropical: Winter to Late Summer.
Temperate: Spring & Early Summer.
Cool climate: Spring and early Summer.

*Please note:

  • Please do not discard seeds that do not germinate too hastily; seeds will often lay dormant until conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
