An heirloom variety of bean originating in Peru the “Lima Bean” is a vigorous climbing tropical, which can grow for serveral years, plants die back in winter and reshoot in spring.
A proven producer this outstanding bean for tropical conditions that will tolerate a large range of soils.
Pod production in the first season is usually limited but produces prolific crops from the second season onward. Require a good strong trellis as it grows quickly and vigorously.
Two to four large beans are produced in each pod beans which can be peeled and eaten fresh, when they are white before showing any colour. Beans dry well on the vine to an attractive dotted red and white bean that can be stored for winter and used in soups, casseroles or a side serving of cooked beans.

Soaking seed overnight prior to sowing helps with the up-take of moisture for germination. Best sown direct in growing position in moist soil.

Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
