A small rounded shrub with an erect stem and spreading branches, leaves are short needle like 2.5 cm long. Red flowers arranged in 4 fringes on a flat stalk which contain nectar and are attractive to honey eating birds. Flowers occur between July and January in its native range.
Endemic to the south of Western Australia between Albany and Esperance.
Prefers a lightly sandy soil in an open sunny position, drought resistant but frost tender.

Although Calothamnus seed can be sown year-round in many parts of Australia, the best time for sowing Calothamnus seeds is during spring to early summer in temperate climates. It is best to avoid sowing during the coldest and hottest months.
Calothamnus seeds are tiny.
Under the right conditions, germination typically occurs within 14-28 days at temperatures between 18-22°C.
