Cumin has been in use since ancient times; the seeds are used as a spice for their distinctive flavour and aroma.

It is globally popular and an essential flavouring in many cuisines, particularly South Asian, Northern African and Latin American cuisines. Boiled in hot water it is great for soothing the throat.

Grows to around 25cm with small pink flowers.

Adaptable to most well-drained fertile garden soils in a sunny position.
