A short-stemmed branching spreading shrub with narrow dark green leathery leaves and attractive Pea-like deep mauve flowers that occur profusely for spring to early summer.
Listed as Rare under the Tasmanian Threatened Species Protection Act 1995
Endemic to New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.
Prefers light to medium well-drained soil in a partially shaded position, drought and frost resistant.
The best time to sow Hovea seed is Late winter and spring, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year.
Seed germinates readily, however; they do have a hard outer coating that is impervious to water and generally germination will normally not occur unless the seed is scarify by abrading or pre-treated with boiling water first.
