One of the better-known West Australian wildflowers that can often be seen growing on the roadsides during the winter and spring months.
An openly-branched shrub or subshrub with crowded, narrow, fleshy leaves and compact groups of pale blue to pale mauve or creamy white flowers on short leafy heads from August to December.
A hardy annual that requires little attention.
Grows naturally in heath, scrub or woodland and is found in near-coastal areas between Kalbarri and Perth, and inland as far as Wongan Hills in the Avon Wheatbelt, Carnarvon, Geraldton Sandplains, Jarrah Forest, Swan Coastal Plain and Warren in Western Australia,
Prefers a light well-drained soil in an open sunny position, drought resistant.
Grow notes:
The optimum germination temperature for germination of this genus is around 18-22°C
Pre-treatment: Smoke is recommended. Smoke treatments are available by clicking here.
General note: Seeds of many natives are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
