An old heirloom variety from Israel that produces a prolific amount of short, very thick pods which have a six-pointed star shape resembling the Star of David.
Pods are best picked when 7-8cm (3”) long. Harvest 60 days
Pods can be eaten parboiled, fried, roasted, or added to stews, soups, and curries. Pods can be used fresh or dried.
Okra plants are not only useful for their edible pods, but they also make great ornamentals that are easy to grow.
Grow notes:
Adaptable to most garden soils but prefers light well-drained, well-fed soil in a sunny position.
Tropical: Late Winter, Spring, and Summer.
Temperate: Spring and Early Summer.
Cold: Late Spring and Early Summer.
Sow: 5mm deep.
Grow in trays of a good seed-raising mix or sow direct where they are to grow
Germination: 8-14 days.
Plant space: 60 cm
Row space: 100 cm
Maturity: 15-20 weeks
Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
