This stunning bright red corn poppy has crepe paper-like petals and comes in shades of red, pink, white, and bicoloured. Corn poppies are native to Europe where they can be found in cultivated fields, meadows, and roadsides.
Poppies always look more dramatic when planted in mass, a must for every spring garden. Self-sows freely.
Useful for wildflower and pollinator seed mixtures, as well as the cottage garden.
Adaptable to most well-drained garden soils in an open sunny position. Tolerant to poor sandy soils, drought, and frost resistance.
Grow notes:
Tropical: Autumn to early winter.
Temperate: Late summer and autumn.
Cold: Late summer and early autumn.
Sow: 2-3mm deep, cover lightly and gently firm.
For best results sow directly into the soil where they are to grow. If grown early indoors use a growing container that can be planted directly into the soil such as jiffy pots as seedlings do not like root disturbance.
Germination: 10-14 days.
Plant space: 20-30cm
Flowering: 20 weeks
Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
