A spectacular shrub or small tree with pendulous branches and an attractive weeping habit that produces pale yellow ball shaped flowers during winter and spring.
Makes a good specimen plant in the garden or screening plant.
Acacia cognata typically grows to a height of 3 to 10 metres, producing pale yellow globular flower heads with a diameter of 3 to 6 millimetres and containing 10 to 25 flowers, and appears singly or in pairs in the leaf axils between July and October.
As with all Acacia, they do not have true leaves; they have modified leaves known as phyllodes.
The green linear to narrowly elliptic phyllodes are slightly curved and have a length of 4 to 10 centimetres and a width of 1 to 3.5 millimetres.
The Bower Wattle thrives in sunny or semi-shady locations; it is also resistant to drought and frost.
An adaptable plant that will grow in almost any soil. Accepts long periods of drought.
Occurs naturally in New South Wales and Victoria, where it grows in granite-based soils as part of dry forest communities.
Acacia cognata was first formally described by the botanist Karel Domin in 1926.
