A fast-growing spreading shrub with many stems or small trees typically to a height of 3 to 5 m that produces right golden rods of cylindrical flowers occur in clusters 2 to 4cm long between January or April and September depending on conditions. Flowers are followed by papery pods. The pods are around 7 cm long and contain the seed.
Like most species of Acacia, it has phyllodes rather than true leaves.
The phyllodes are blue-green phyllodes that are slightly curved, broad and blunt 10 cm long.
Occurrs predominantly in the arid and semi-arid regions of central and northern Australia with pockets occurring in all states except Tasmania.
Prefers well-drained soil in an open sunny position, drought and frost tolerant.
The best time to sow Acacia seed is:
Cool climates: September to May.
Temperate climates: September to May.
Sub-Tropical climates: August to May
Tropical climates: September to November or March to May.
Arid climates: August to May.
Germination: Typically occurs within two weeks.
