A medium-sized shrub with grey-green ferny foliage which is an attractive contrast the the profusion of bright yellow flowers that occur in spring.
A decorative shrub that can be cultivated as a specimen plant or incorporated into a shrubbery. Prune after flowering.
The Western Silver Wattle is one of a small number of acacia with true leaves rather than phyllodes.
Native to Central New South Wales and Southeast Queensland.
Prefers medium to heavy soils in an open sunny position.
The best time to sow Acacia seed is:
Cool climates: September to May.
Temperate climates: September to May.
Sub-Tropical climates: August to May
Tropical climates: September to November or March to May.
Arid climates: August to May.
- soak in water for 24-48 hours.
- Next, soak seeds in near boiling water overnight to help soften the tough exterior and improve germination.
- Sow the seeds to a depth equal to the seed's width.
Germination: Typically occurs within two weeks.
