Aloe claviflora forms dense outward-facing rosettes in contrast to the typical erect rosettes of other aloes. Orange-red flowers occur similarly at an outward-facing angle and are not upright during the late winter and spring.
A mid-sized Aloe with powdery bluish-green foliage up to 20cm long with spiky tips and margins.

The plants start as a small, dense, circular group growing outwards in ever-increasing circles, hence the common name “kraal aloe”

Originates from the arid regions of Southern Africa.

The secret to growing aloe is to create a free-draining mix that will not become waterlogged. Aloe seeds can be easily propagated in sandy and well-drained potting soil during spring or summer.

Once you've sown the seeds, cover them with a thin layer of sand (1-2mm) and keep the soil moist but not too wet.

It's best to keep the seeds in a warm and shady area.

When the seedlings are sufficiently grown to handle, they can be planted out.
It usually takes about three weeks for the seeds to germinate when the soil temperature is around 23°C.

*Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
