A fast-growing Banksia with stunning large flowers. The flowers can be from yellow to reddish-orange colours and occur from mid-summer to mid-autumn.
An attractive species of that occurs naturally around the Albany region on the south coast of Western Australia making it an ideal variety for harsh windy coastal conditions.
The large flower spikes are popular in cut and dried flower arrangements.
Prefers light to medium well-drained soil in a sunny position. Adaptable to a range of conditions but dislikes humid wet conditions.

Seed is best sown in spring or autumn in a temperate climate.
The growing medium should be well draining but should remain damp between watering.
Sow the seed 3-4mm deep. Vermiculite is a good medium to use to cover the surface as it helps retain moisture and controls the temperature.
Keep moist but not too wet as the seed will rot.
Germination should occur in 21-60 days at 18-22°C
Pre-germination of seed by sowing into a closed container containing moist vermiculite or similar material is also a useful method of germinating seeds, particularly for winter sowing when outdoor temperatures may be unsuitable. Germination usually occurs in 1-2 weeks using this method and when the root has reached about a centimetre or so in length, the seedling can be placed into a small pot of seed raising mix. Pre-treatment of smoke: is not critical to the germination of this species. However many members of the Proteaceae family are responsive to pre-treatment of smoke
