A popular heirloom variety of beetroot originating in the USA in the early 19th century that produce roots with an orange-red skin and golden yellow-orange flesh with excellent sweet flavour.
The top growth can be eaten as chard or spinach.
Unlike to red varieties of beetroot “Detroit Golden” is a little milder in taste and does not bleed and stain.
Detroit Golden are a great variety sliced or in salads.
Grow notes:
Adaptable to most good garden soils, prefers an open sunny position. Avoid deformed beets by planting them in loose soil free from stones or rocks.

Sow: 12mm deep
For best results grow in trays of a quality seed raising mix transplant when 6cm high. Alternatively sow direct and thin to strongest plant.
