Pequin is a hot chilli pepper cultivator with a compact habit that produces an abundance of small berries that rarely exceed 2 cm in length. Like most chillies, the berries start out green, ripening to brilliant red at maturity.
These chilli peppers are very hot, often 5-8 times hotter than jalapenos on the Scoville scale (30,000 to 60,000 Units).
Pequin peppers are highly valued in Mexico, often costing more than 10 times the price of other peppers.
Adaptable to most garden soils but prefers a well-drained, well fed soil in a sunny position. Annual in temperate climates perennial in the tropics.
Capsicums require warmth for germination, if starting early provide warmth.
