The spectacular Red flowering gum is one of the most widely cultivated eucalypts in Australia and overseas.
Flowers occur profusely during summer and are a colourful addition to southern hemisphere gardens at Christmas time. Once established, flowers will often cover the whole tree, making it difficult to see the foliage.
Moderately fast-growing and may eventually reach 15 metres but is often smaller.
Corymbia ficifolia grows easily from seed.
Grows in sandy soil in low forest on slopes and is restricted to a sub-coastal distribution southeast of Perth, east of Mount Frankland, Walpole and the Stirling Range in Western Australia.Native to the south of Western Australia.
Prefers a moist, well-drained sandy soil in a protected sunny position, drought, and frost tender.
The best time to sow members of the Myrtaceae family seed is:
Cool climates: September to May.
Temperate climates: September to May.
Sub-Tropical climates: August to May
Tropical climates: September to November or March to May.
Arid climates: August to May.
The grow mix should be well-draining, preferably with organic compost. This will replicate the soil they require in nature, a potting mix is not recommended.
Germination occurs in around 10-28 days at a soil temperature of 18-22°C
