The Heart Leaved Gum is an attractive small to medium tree typically growing 3 to 15 metres in height with a dense crown of attractive silver-blue heart-shaped foliage.
The foliage is very popular in floral arrangements.
Conical flower buds open to cream to yellow flowers in August and September.
A lignotuber forming species that is ideal for coppicing for the cut foliage industry.
Adaptable to a range of soils. Tolerates wet and dry soils as well as boggy clay soils in an open sunny position. Frost tolerant.
Occurs naturally in a restricted distribution range in the southeast of Tasmania.
Although seeds can be sown most of the year if you avoid the coldest and hottest months, spring is generally the best time to sow.
The grow mix should be well-draining, preferably with organic compost. This will replicate the soil they require in nature.
A potting mix is not recommended.
Germination occurs in around 10-28 days at a soil temperature of 18-22°C
