The False Sunflower also known as the Ox-Eye Sunflower is a long blooming plant 120cm tall and produces yellow flowers with slightly darker centres.
A native to the central and northeastern U.S. and is found in moist to dry, open woodlands, prairies, and fields. It is highly adaptable and easy to grow.
Plants attract predatorily or parasitoid insects that prey upon pest insects.
Also recommended for pollinator and wildlife plantings.
Blooms from summer to early autumn. Performs best with regular moisture.
Grow notes:
Tropical: Winter to early summer.
Temperate: Late winter to mid-summer.
Cold: Spring early summer.
Sow: 4mm deep
For best results sow directly into the soil where they are to grow. If grown early indoors use a growing container that can be planted directly into the soil such as jiffy pots as seedlings do not like root disturbance.
Germination: 10-14 days.
Plant space: 30cm
Flowering: 8-10 weeks
Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
