Balsam ‘Tom Thumb Mix’ is a quick-growing summer annual flower a lovely mix of colours including rose, pink, purple, red, orange and white blooms.
More top flowering than previous strains with more tolerance to drought.
Growing to only 30 to 45cm tall this dwarf variety of Balsam is ideal for containers, beds and borders. Plants bloom throughout summer and do best in rich, well-drained soil.
Grows in the shade, full sun or part sun.
Native to India and Myanmar it was used in indigenous traditional medicine throughout Asia.
Balsams will re-seed readily.
Grow notes:
Tropical: Winter to Summer.
Temperate: Late Winter and Spring.
Cool climate: Late Winter to Early-Summer.
Sow: 5cm deep
Best sown direct or sow in trays and transplanted when large enough to handle.
Plant in well-drained soil in a sunny position.
Plant space: 40cm
Germination: 10-14 days
Flowering: 12 weeks
