Long popular in cottage gardens Maltese Cross is a striking garden perennial that produces large clusters of flaming red, rose or salmon-rose blossoms during spring into summer.
Excellent plant for attracting butterflies, old-fashioned cottage gardens, cut flowers, beds, and borders. Tolerates full to part sun and dry to moderate moisture.
Clumps can be divided in spring and autumn.
Native to central and eastern Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and northwestern China.
Grow notes:
Tropical: Autumn and Winter.
Temperate: Spring to Mid Summer.
Cool climate: Spring to Early Summer.
Sow: on the surface and firm gently. Keep warm and moist. Do not bury deeply.
Sown direct or sow in trays and transplant when large enough to handle.
Plant in well-drained soil in a sunny position.
Plant space: 30cm
Germination: 14-21 days
Flowering: 10-12 weeks
