African Marigold ‘Hawaii’ is an old-fashioned heirloom cultivar with large, showy, fluffy deep orange double flowers that grow to 90 cm tall.
Blooms over a long season from late spring to late autumn. Marigolds have edible petals that can be added to salads for a sweet or savoury flavour,
Recommended for beds & borders, cut flowers or mass plantings.
Useful as a companion plant to control insect pests in the vegetable garden.
The flowers are used for natural dyes in food and fabrics.
Remove spent flowers to encourage dense growth and new flowers.
Adaptable to most garden soils in an open sunny position.
Tagetes erecta is native to Mexico despite being often referred to as African marigold. The Aztecs gathered the wild plant as well as cultivated it for medicinal, ceremonial and decorative purposes.
