A marigold with fantastic colours and unusual flower form Sparky blooms on 20-30 cm stems in vivid shades of red and bi-colour gold, the petals, unlike those of most marigolds, are wide and wavy.
Sparky is ideal for fronting borders, looks spectacular mass planted, and is easy to grow in pots or planters for colour accents on the patio or porch.
Useful for bringing beneficial insects into the vegetable garden to control bad bugs and pests.
The essential oil from Tagetes patula is used in perfumery.
TAGETES patulais native to the highlands of central Mexico despite being often referred to as French marigold.
Adaptable to most garden soils in an open sunny position.
The optimal time to plant marigolds in Australia is spring or early summer. This will allow ample time for the plants to establish their roots before the scorching summer sun arrives.
As marigolds are not frost-resistant, it is crucial to wait until the risk of frost has passed before planting them outdoors.

- Sow 5-6mm deep directly in the growing position
- If sowing in trays or containers, transplant when large enough to handle.
- For mass planting, scatter the seed and rake over just enough to cover the seed.
Germination: 7-10 days at 24-28°C
