An old heirloom variety of climbing peas from the 16th century.
A very ornamental climbing pea that will reach a height of around 2 metres producing a huge crop of very sweet flavoured peas.
The beautiful purple flowers are followed by deep purple pods that contain green peas. Harvest as shelled pea or use as dried peas. 70 days to first pick.
Grow notes:
Tropical: Autumn and Winter.
Temperate: Late Summer to late Winter.
Cold: Early Winter to early Spring
Sow: 2cm deep.
Soaking seed overnight prior to sowing helps with the up-take of moisture for germination. Best sown direct in growing position in moist soil.
Germination: 7-10 days.
Plant space: 5cm
Row space: 1 metre
Maturity: 10-12 weeks
Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
Adaptable to most good garden soils, prefers an open sunny position.
