Penstemon-digitalis also known as Foxglove Beardtongue is a semi-evergreen perennial American wildflower occuring naturally in eastern Canada and the eastern and southeastern United States. Penstemon digitalis is the most widespread species of Penstemon east of the Mississippi River.
It thrives in open woods, meadows, and prairies and can be planted in both full sun and light shade making it very adaptable to Australian wet or dry conditions.

It grows up to 90cm tall and is recommended for home gardens and meadow planting.

In warm climates Penstemon seeds respond to cold, placing the seed in the refrigerator for 2-4 weeks will assist with germination
Following the cold period, sow the flower seeds in trays

Press the seeds into a porous soil cover very lightly if required to keep the seed in postion, do not bury the seed.
keep the trays continually moist and warm for germination

  1. If sowing in trays transplant when large enough to handle.
  2. If mass planting as a meadow scatter seeds and rake over

Germination: 14-21 days at a soil temperature of 20-24°C

Tropical: Autumn.
Temperate: Late Summer to Late Autumn or spring.
Cold: Late Summer to Mid Autumn.

*Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to germinate, keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • The customer should do their due diligence that they are suited to their region.
