Penstemon is from the same family of plants, Digitalis "Plantaginaceae"
During mid-spring to early summer, you can find this plant with abundant white flowers that attract nectar-feeding birds, butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects due to its early bloom time.
Penstemon-digitalis , also known as Foxglove Beardtongue, is a semi-evergreen perennial American wildflower occurring naturally in eastern Canada and the eastern and southeastern United States. Penstemon digitalis is the most widespread species of Penstemon east of the Mississippi River.
It thrives in open woods, meadows, and prairies and can be planted in both full sun and light shade, making it very adaptable to Australian wet or dry conditions.
It grows up to 90cm tall and is recommended for home gardens and meadow planting.
The seeds are small, it is best to sow them on the surface, cover lightly and keep them moist.
If growing in trays transplant when large enough to handle.
If sowing for mass plantings scatter on roughened soil and rake cover lightly.
Germination: 14-21 days at a soil temperature of 18-22°C
Plant Space: 35 cm
