An impressive-looking shrub that produces a mass display of bright purplish mauve flowers occurring on globular heads 1 cm in spring. Leaves are narrowly elliptical and 6 mm long.
The shrub is highly adaptable and very successful in its growth.
Endemic to the south coast region of the South-West Province of Western Australia.
Prefers a light to medium well-drained soil in a protected shaded position, frost resistant but drought tender.
Although seed can be sown most of the year in many parts of Australia, seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn, avoiding the coldest and hottest months. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-22°C
General note: Seeds of many natives are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they are discarded.
