Hardy perennial that ranges in height from 45-60 cm; best known for its fern like colourful foliage and attractive upright flower spikes. The leaflets give a "ladder" effect on each side of the stem, bell-shaped flowers in shades of purple and lavender. Remove spent blooms to prolong blooming period.
Prefers a rich moist well-drained soil in a protected sunny position, frost resistant drought tender.
Tropical: Early Autumn & Winter.
Temperate: Spring or Autumn.
Cool climate: Spring to Early Summer or Autumn.
Sow: On surface and firm gently. Do not sow deeply.
Polemonium seed should be sown in containers on the surface of the soil and pressed down gently, do not cover and the seed requires light and temperatures of 14-18°C (65-75°F) to germinate. Keep moist, transplant seedlings when the spring soil has warmed and they are large enough to handle.
