Spectacular Chilean relative of the petunia introduced in 1824. Striped  trumpet shaped flowers in a wide range of almost metallic colours. Salpiglossis comes from two Greek words meaning trumpet and tongue, referring to the velvet like blooms.

Prefers a rich moist well-drained soil in an open sunny position. Drought and frost tender.

TropicalAutumn to Spring. 
Temperate: Late Summer and Autumn.
Cool climate: Late Summer and Autumn or Late Winter to Early Summer.

Sow: 3mm deep
Sow direct in the growing position or in trays. If sowing in trays transplant when large enough to handle avoiding excessive root disturbance.
Plant in a well-drained soil in a sunny position.
Plant space: 20-30cm
Germination: 10-14 days
Flowering: 10 Weeks
