A useful species for creating shelter and shade.

Occurs naturally in some small areas on the Flinders Range in South Australia near Hawker in the south to around Mount Harris in the north and also around Wilgena. In New South Wales it occurs in the Broken Hill area.

Conservation status NSW: Endangered.

For best results, sow the seeds in spring or early summer. Sowings in autumn and winter may result in slow germination, weaker seedlings, or germination failure.

  1.  soak in water for 24-48 hours.
  2. Next, soak seeds in near boiling water overnight to help soften the tough exterior and improve germination.
  3. Sow the seeds to a depth equal to the seed's width.

Germination: Typically occurs within two weeks.

Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to germinate, keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • The customer should do their due diligence that they are suited to their region.
