King Henry VIII produces a profusion of stunning almost black single flowers making it a wonderful addition to any flower bed.
Outstanding longevity in the garden, plant on mass in beds and borders for a stunning colour display. King Henry VIII also makes an excellent cut flower.
Prefers a fertile moist well-drained soil in a sunny to partially shaded position.
Grow notes:
Tropical: Autumn to early winter.
Sub-tropical: Autumn to early winter
Temperate: Late summer to autumn.
Cold: Mid-summer to late autumn.
Sow: 5-6mm deep and gently firm. Keep moist but not too wet.
For best results raise in trays of a porous seed raising mix. Transplant when about 8cm high.
Germination: 10-14 days.
Plant space: 30-40cm
Flowering: 26 weeks
Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
Hollyhocks have a reasonable germination rate.
The best time to sow hollyhock seeds is in the summer months. It is best sown directly into the growing position to give them a head start before the chilly winter.
