Single deep shades of carmine red flowers often with a creamy white centre with fine silver foliage. Californian Poppies are a charming addition to the garden and are easy to grow and require virtually no care. Self-sows freely.
Adaptable to most well-drained garden soils in an open sunny position. Tolerant to poor sandy soils and is drought and frost resistant.
Grow notes:
Tropical: Winter to early summer.
Sub- tropical: Winter to early summer.
Temperate: Late winter to mid-summer.
Cold: Spring early summer.
Sow: 2-3mm deep, cover lightly and gently firm.
For best results sow directly into soil where they are to grow. If grown early indoors use a growing container that can be plant directly into the soil such as jiffy pots as seedlings do not like root disturbance.
Germination: 10-14 days.
Plant space: 30cm
Flowering: 8-10 weeks
Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
