Wallflowers are a popular bedding plant that originated in Europe. They have fragrant flowers that come in a range of colours, including red, orange, yellow, pink, and russet.
Although they are perennials, they are often grown as annuals and have a uniform height and habit. Wallflowers thrive in sunny spots in the garden and can be planted in various positions or containers. They are perfect for cut flowers, cottage gardens, and edging, and look great when planted in large drifts. Additionally, they attract beneficial insects.

The English Wallflower is native to southern Europe and may have been brought to England by Normans during the 11th century. It can self-seed in the garden, making it easy to grow. Wallflowers prefer well-drained soil in an open, sunny position, and they are drought and frost-resistant.

Wallflower seeds are best grown in trays and transplanted when large enough to handle.
For masses planting scatter over weed-free soil and rake over 6mm deep. Keep moist during germination.
