Marigold 'Starfire Mix' is a charming plant that produces an abundance of small flowers in shades of red, orange, and yellow. Many of the flowers have a distinctive blotch in the centre, and the petals are edible.
When crushed, the flowers and foliage emit a delightful scent reminiscent of citrus and verbena. The plants have a mounding shape and can grow up to 30-38 cm tall.

They are highly recommended in containers, beds & borders, and the edible garden. Additionally, they make great companion plants for vegetable gardens attracting beneficial insects.

Tagetes tenuifolia, the signet marigold is a species of the wild marigold in the daisy family (Asteraceae). It is widespread across most of Mexico as well as Central America.

The optimal time to plant marigolds in Australia is spring or early summer. This will allow ample time for the plants to establish their roots before the scorching summer sun arrives.
As marigolds are not frost-resistant, it is crucial to wait until the risk of frost has passed before planting them outdoors.

Tropical: Autumn, Winter and Spring
Temperate: Spring, Summer, and Autumn
Cold: Spring and Summer

  • Sow 5-6mm deep directly in the growing position
  • If sowing in trays or containers, transplant when large enough to handle.
  • For mass planting, scatter the seed and rake over just enough to cover the seed.

Germination: 7-10 days at 24-28°C

*Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
